Job Description:
We are seeking experienced and motivated Backcountry Guides and Avalanche Instructors to join our team. As a guide or instructor, you will be responsible for leading clients through backcountry adventures, providing expert instruction on avalanche safety, splitboarding, and other backcountry skills. You'll be working in some of the most stunning and challenging terrain in the world—perfect for those who are passionate about teaching and exploring the mountains.
In addition to guiding, you will play a key role in educating clients on avalanche awareness, safe travel techniques, and winter survival skills. You will teach essential backcountry skills, from avalanche transceiver training to terrain analysis, snowpack assessment, and risk management. For those who are entrepreneurial, there is also an opportunity to generate additional income by marketing and filling your own courses—generous splits are available for go-getters.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead backcountry splitboarding, avalanche education, and winter mountain courses in the Wasatch Mountains.

Provide expert instruction on avalanche safety, terrain assessment, snowpack evaluation, and backcountry travel techniques.

Teach clients how to use avalanche safety equipment, including transceivers, shovels, probes, and airbags.

Tailor courses and trips to a range of skill levels, from beginners looking to explore backcountry terrain to advanced riders and skiers seeking to refine their skills.

Lead safe and well-organized backcountry tours, ensuring all participants have a rewarding and educational experience.

Help clients develop the skills and mindset needed to safely navigate the backcountry, fostering an environment of learning and safety.

Promote environmental stewardship and responsible backcountry practices.

Market and promote your own courses to your network and clients—generous revenue splits for instructors who fill their own classes.

Continuously update and refine your own avalanche education, certifications, and backcountry knowledge.
Requirements:

Extensive backcountry experience with a strong background in splitboarding, avalanche safety, and winter mountain skills.

Current certifications in Avalanche Safety (e.g., AIARE Level 1 & 2, Avalanche Rescue), First Aid, CPR, and Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR).

Ability to teach and lead clients in challenging backcountry environments, demonstrating strong knowledge of avalanche risk management, terrain, and snowpack analysis.

Proficiency in using avalanche safety equipment, including transceivers, shovels, probes, and airbags.

Passion for teaching and sharing backcountry skills with others, creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment.

Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills, especially in potentially high-risk situations.

Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit—willingness to market and fill your own courses for increased earning potential.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:

2-3 years in an outdoor educator, mountain guide/guide or instructor capacity.

Experience leading or instructing backcountry courses, including splitboarding, avalanche education, or similar activities.

Additional certifications in advanced avalanche courses, mountain guiding, or backcountry skiing.

Marketing or sales experience to help build your client base.

Strong network of backcountry enthusiasts who would benefit from your courses.
